Nikko (日光) is located at the entrance of the Nikko National Park. This city is famous for its Toshogu, this is Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. The area wasn't always known for the Toshogu; the area has Nikko had been the center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries before Toshogu was built in the 1600s, and Nikko National Park continues to offer amazing, mountainous landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, wild monkeys and hiking trails. This is definitely a must-see destination for travelers that would like to add nature into there itinerary
